| From the beginning, the name Urban Angler suited the store perfectly; a new home for the many avid fly anglers of New York City. The store was founded in 1988 by the Jon and Steve Fisher, passionate fly fishers who felt that New York anglers desired and deserved an alternative to Orvis. Word spread quickly that a new fly shop was opening and local anglers were immediately supportive. Urban Angler sold its first rods directly from boxes as they arrived from manufacturers. We knew instantly that fly fishing was alive and well in New York City.
